This 3.5 day course is designed to aid adjusters in understanding the unique differences in NFIP flood policies and assist them in completely handling a claim file in the desired manner.

This course includes information taken directly from the National Flood insurance Program Adjuster Claims Manual revised January 2010. The course will deal with basic adjustment issues and NFIP forms and documents. It will address the three different claims settlement procedures as they apply to single family owner occupied residences, manufactured or mobile homes and travel trailers, and two, three or four family dwellings that do not qualify for replacement cost coverage and buildings that are not used exclusively for single family residences.

Additional consideration will be given to other basic issues like additions and extensions, basements, contents and proper application of depreciation. Students will learn to file the ‘Primary Damage Assessment Form’, the Non-Waiver Form and the ‘Proof of Loss’.  Attention will also be given to repair vs. replacement, overhead and profit and settling losses where the SFIP (Standard Flood Insurance Policy) is either primary or secondary insurance.

The form section will address the Flood Questionnaire, the Preliminary Report, and the Advance Payment Request. This course will also address the Statement as to Full Cost of Repair or Replacement, the Cause of Loss and Subrogation form, and NFIP Final Report.

Instruction on ‘Special Adjustment Issues – Students will discuss HVAC and solar panel issues, bailee goods, boathouses, carpeting and drapery, and cisterns.

Attention will be given to Closed Basin Lakes, Continuous Lake Flooding and the Coastal Barrier Resources System. Additionally the course will deal with substantial improvement, condemnation and the proper handling of commercial losses. This course is designed to address all the issues typically confronting flood adjusters from ‘Repetitive Loss’ to ‘Reformation’ and ‘Stock Losses’ under the General Property Form.

At its conclusion students will be better prepared to properly investigate and have a more thorough understanding of their responsibilities to FEMA and the NFIP.
