Heavy Equipment Estimating
This course will provide the foundation for preparing quality estimates on damaged heavy equipment.
This intermediate level 5 day course will provide the foundation for preparing quality estimates on damaged Heavy Equipment including bulldozers, backhoes, cranes, dump trucks, forklifts and graders.
Students should be well versed in auto estimate writing skills or have taken Vale’s Auto Estimatics Course.

DAY ONE: Heavy Equipment Types, Nomenclature, Damage Analysis, Vehicle construction and Repair processes, Flat Rate Manuals, Estimating Systems. Vehicle Inspection/Identification. Damage Analysis, Scoping Sequence, Refinish Procedures. Practice Estimate.
DAY TWO: Quiz #1 Repair vs Replace Panels/Hoods /Grilles /Cabs/Glass/Buckets. Frames and Inner Structure. Types of Buckets. Interior Components. OEM and LKQ Assemblies. HE Dealership shop visit. Write damaged Panel and Cab estimates.
DAY THREE: Quiz #2 Wheels/Tires/Tracks, Front and Rear Axles, Suspension, Steering, Alignment, Air Systems, Brakes, Cooling Systems, Mechanical Systems, Engine parts and accessories. Transmissions, Drive Line, Components, Fuel Systems.
DAY FOUR: Quiz #3 Heavy Equipment Identification/Construction. Bulldozer- Identifying types and parts. Backhoe-Identifying types. 360 degree Cabs/Components/Types and Construction. Hydraulics and Pneumatics. Contamination issues. Earth Movers-Cranes and Graders identification, Interior/Parts/Life-Cycle cost Analysis repair vs replace. Visit Heavy Equipment Shop.
DAY FIVE: Review/Grade 4 estimates: Cab, Mechanicals, Tracks, Buckets. Written Final Examination. Total Losses/Resources, Evaluation guides, Heavy Equipment locators. Salvage Pools, Bids/Auctions. Selling Salvage: Owner retention, Exchanges. Preview of Future Heavy Equipment Evolution. Final Exam.
